A Brief Historical Overview of Elam Rugs and Carpets

Featuring a number of patterns and many different colors and shades, these Elam rugs and carpets are made with great craftsmanship.  The floor coverings that are exported out of Elam more commonly have smaller piles or are Kelims.  The most common knot used in the hand knotting process is the asymmetrical Persian knot, and occasionally the symmetrical Turkish knot.

Materials and Designs of the Elam Rugs

These elegant carpets and runners are hand made with a wool pile, creating a unique texture and feel for each Persian carpet and rug.  The foundations are primarily cotton, although you can occasionally find a wool or goat hair foundation.  The quality of hand woven oriental rugs in Elam can vary from a very tight, dense knot to a loose knot.  This helps to create a diverse collection of products.

Almost every color can be found in these beautiful carpets, from dark blues and burgundies to off whites a beiges.  The lighter colors the accent the darker shades make these handmade rugs have a bold and traditional look to them.  Made from natural dyes, the hues and shades can help to make every one of these carpets and runners completely original.

Bringing life to their simple homes, these bright and bold oriental rugs are usually woven in geometric patterns.  They are simple and straightforward, showing the same qualities of the semi-nomad’s life style.  Rustic colors and red shades are the most predominant hues in the Elam rugs, mellowing down any bright colors just enough to go well with many house interiors.
